In the SOS-Feriendorf by the Lake Caldonazzo work many engaged people from all over Europe in various teams. They cover the following areas:
- Freetime (movement & creative)
- Water rescue/ Lifeguards
- Caldo Klinik
The first and common aim of the teams is providing joyful holidays for the children.
If you are interested in working with one of the teams:
The director Carmen Eberle and the administrative team, composed of the logistic coordinator Stefania Bortolotti and the secretary Margherita Fruet, work all year in Caldonazzo.
Although the structure of the SOS-Feriendorf is in the midst of its activities during the summer season, there is much work to be done both before and after. When summer arrives, it is necessary that everything is ready if we want to ensure an unforgettable holiday to our small and big guests!
There are many things to do and they are all very different from each other: it is necessary to organize the summer activities, to schedule the arrivals and departures of the Villages, to search and hire the coworkers, to prepare an evaluation of the summer season, to program the purchases of the necessary equipment for next year.
Moreover it is necessary to take care of the management of accounting, the food supply, the orders of the material for the freetime activities, the preparation and translation of documents and reports and, besides that, all the paperwork related to the reception of such a large number of people!
The SOS-Feriendorf is a place where children and adults from many different nations of Europe meet every summer for over 60 years. This opportunity of international communication between nations should be used as good as possible.
The communication team plays an important role in the organizational structure of the SOS-Feriendorf. It organises manifestations such as parties, events, excursions etc. with the aim of bringing together different nations and cultures and giving the opportunity to the SOS Villages and the groups to know each other better.
Moreover the communication team is responsible for providing fast information to the Children’s Villages, guest groups and teams in the camp. The translators translate all important information into the camp languages German, English and Italian and also offer language courses for children and adults. The village newspaper “Caldo-weekly”, which is read by old and young people, is also published by this group in cooperation with children.
Furthermore the communication team helps the pedagogical director and Capo Campo with the organisation and is a reference point for all SOS Villages and guest groups at the Camp at the Lake.
Water rescue/ Lifeguards
The lifeguards are responsible for the safety of the children in the water, at the beach and during certain events. Together with the sports team, for instance, they lead various swimming competitions during the summer camp.
Further, the lifeguard crew offers training and different exams:
- swimming lessons
- swimming exams
The lifeguards engage a lot in active collaboration with other teams for example during sport events, children's disco or creative festivals.
The small medical care center, briefly „Caldoklinik“, opens the door to all the children and coworkers that need assistance: earache, a scraped knee or just homesickness.. there is always someone of this team ready to help, comfort and give advice!
About 1000 portions are prepared and transported in warm-keeping containers for each meal every day .
The menu includes meals from different parts of Europe, salad and fruit are served every day but sometimes also specialties and cakes for the joy of the children!
There's rush-hour every day in the central laundry. Besides linens, covers and mattresses 'covers, also the clothes of the assistants and different groups can be washed there, according to the list that specify on which day a group can give in the clothes.
The clothes have to be marked with the name of the country, the SOS Children's Village and initials. For example, the indication A - IM - FH means that this piece belongs to Fritz Huber from SOS Children's Village of Imst in Austria.
The so-called "Dorfmaster", the handymen, are also busy. Together with the administrative team they work at the SOS- Feriendorf throughout the year. The structures of the SOS-Feriendorf have to be maintained and renovated all over the year.
At the end of the summer, everything has to be dismantled and deposited in a hall or in and in front of the bungalows and every year this has to be assembled again.
Besides the ground maintenance (lawn, trees), also the buildings have to be inspected regularly.
There's a fixed plan stating that around 130 tents are pitched on only one day with the help of many volunteers from Caldonazzo and its surroundings. The bungalows have to be furnished with beds, mattresses, cupboards, tables and benches until the first groups arrive in July.
The cleaning team works hard every day to keep the SOS-Feriendorf clean, ranging from the toilets and showers to the streets of the Camp, the beach and around the football grounds. However, it is obvious that everyone must contribute, keeping clean their own bungalow, the tents and the surrounding area!
This group often collaborates with the group of maintenance and helps to dismantle the tents at the end of the season.
